Cousins
Sparrow's first visit to Oma and Grandad, 22-28 November, 2009

Back to index

Mimi and Sparrow are meeting for the first time - Sparrow's six months old and Mimi is three months old. They're being helped to sit in front of each other by their parents. I loved the contrast of the feet together. At this stage Mimi makes Sparrow look so boofy.

The full picture of the contemplation of each other.

James is demonstrating his l3eT mad uncle skillz, developed and honed over six months of being a dad.

The Gwinnett siblings compare parenthood.

Cousins with Oma and Grandad. It was at this moment I realised we hadn't had to carry around a chuck cloth for Sparrow for a while (the change had happened slowly), and how much I didn't miss it.

On the mat with some toys. Sparrow liked this little German singing and shaking doll. She wasn't perfectly convinced of it every time, but was interested I think.

Lying together. It was really quite odd seeing all the little things that Mimi did that Sparrow had stopped doing without us noticing. Like the tongue thing. Sparrow is seeming almost blase at this point. She is such a chillout kid.

Both on Oma's lap. Again, Sparrow seems so huge. She was not a small baby.

Being passed around from relative to relative. Get used to it, girls.

Joanna, Mimi and James. Mimi is lying on the two mats I made for each of the two girls - her tiger-stripes change mat, and Sparrow's six-fold-symmetry mat (though you can't see it as well). Sparrow was starting to outgrow mats at this point, just beginning to wiggle a little too much, so we had her on blankets more often.

Trying to hold both - but Sparrow has discovered Mimi's ear. Again. She was fascinated with it, and kept trying to pick it up or pull it off. It's a bit fuzzy because I was trying to take photos without the flash wherever I could, it's better for their eyes - but just couldn't get enough light all the time for a reasonable exposure rate.

Stack!!!!

Maggie had knitted these two little dresses for Mimi and Sparrow, and we'd managed to get them both into them and sitting together. Maggie hasn't realised yet though, she's too busy trying to get us all to come to the dinner table before dinner gets ruined - and Joanna and Gordon are stalling to try and get her to come over to see the Terrible Two on display together before they get up. James has tuned the whole thing out.

The whole clan, gathered for dinner.

More time together, but Sparrow has lost interest in the other baby because she has a coaster to gum on. Mimi however is returning Sparrow's earlier explorative interest with interest.
