Sparrow's first Christmas, Albany, 2009
Visits, visitors and adventures

Back to index

Driving down to Albany, and it was a bit warm. This is our lunch-ish stop at Williams. Sparrow is happily playing with the water bottle and Daddy's hat as a way of distracting her from trying to get my yoghurt and choc milk, neither of which she's supposed to be eating yet. It took a fair bit of watching her to keep her safely on the table away from the ants, and away from all the other really interesting things she wanted to try and get within reach of. Lucky her reach is still so limited, though that's changing rapidly.

Going for a walk at Cosy Corner beach. That's Trevor in red, Mum in blue facing us, and some other random beach walkers in the middle.

This is an interesting thing to find on the beach. Well, I thought so. I couldn't get Sparrow to have a look at it though, not when there was all this sand nearby.

James and I have left Sparrow playing and sleeping with Grandma and gone over to Muttonbird Island beach for some quiet fishing time. Chris came with us for a swim and snorkel. He was very helpful and told us that there weren't any fish at all where we were fishing, and also where there were some - funnily enough, not anywhere within reach of us or any other fisherfolk down at the beach this day. Nice to have the time quietly to ourselves, though we didn't stay out as long as we could have. We're still a bit nervous about that, though it'll get better as she gets more independent with play and especially with food.

Going up to visit Colleen and the Smiths up the hill, our closest neighbours.

So here we are, next door.

Colleen's family were down for Christmas too, and they'd found a birds' nest in the tree that we all had a good look at. The two kids had got cameras for Christmas and were testing them out taking photos. Sparrow was quite interested in the process.

Stopping in to see Chris Wolfenden. Sparrow wasn't entirely sure about this guy. But she didn't mind, either. Chris was certainly impressed by her size and "good condition" i.e. chubbiness (as is everyone, really :-) I think he had another phrase for it, but I can't remember now.

The Swains came by to visit. No relation, just friends of Mum's who happen to have the same surname and some interesting background and common interests.

Sparrow didn't seem to mind the extra looking around at people and being held. She's reasonably good at being held by lots of people, and I do try to encourage this.

Neither James nor I really care about our wedding anniversary - the anniversary we take seriously is October 3rd which is when we (well, I) finally agreed that we should do this thing. But this was the first anniversary of the day we were married on the Rock, and we were on the farm, so we thought we should go up there and take Sparrow as well so she could actually see it this time (having been in my belly last time!). So some family kisses and cuddles ensued.

Visiting Trevor. Sparrow is enjoying hearing him tell about things.

She also appears to like his taste in music - see those feet kicking.
